Salvation is a Person: The Purpose

Speaker:

Salvation is a Person: The Purpose

1 John 3:4-5

“Jesus lived a sinless life so that his perfect righteousness could be credited to us.”

Tim Keller

New Life Version

The person who keeps on sinning is guilty of not obeying the Law of God. For sin is breaking the Law of God. You know that Christ came to take away our sins. There is no sin in Him.

Hebrews 4:15

New Living Translation

15 This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin.

1 Peter 2:22-23

22 He committed no sin, neither was deceit found in his mouth. 23 When he was reviled, he did not revile in return; when he suffered, he did not threaten, but continued entrusting himself to him who judges justly.

His Perfection is my perfection:

Hebrews 10:14

14 For by that one offering he forever made perfect those who are being made holy.

Romans 8:1

So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus.

You can’t make yourself a Christian:

Transformation is not behavior modification; it is the work of the Holy Spirit conforming us to the image of Jesus Christ. We are not merely forgiven-we are being changed.

2 Corinthians 3:18

18 So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord—who is the Spirit—makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image.

Galatians 2:20

20 My old self has been crucified with Christ.[a] It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

Philippians 1:6

And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.

Living in His perfection:

1 John 4:13-17

13 By this we know that we abide in him and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit. 14 And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. 15 Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God. 16 So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him. 17 By this is love perfected with us, so that we may have confidence for the day of judgment, because as he is so also are we in this world.
