Freedom in Christ
Freedom In Christ
“You stand before God as if you were Christ, because Christ stood before God as if He were you.”
Charles Spurgeon
As He is so are we:
1 John 4:17
New King James Version
17 Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world.
2 Corinthians 5:21
21 For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
Freedom in Christ:
Galatians 5:1
English Standard Version
For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.
Galatians 5:2-6
2 Look: I, Paul, say to you that if you accept circumcision, Christ will be of no advantage to you. 3 I testify again to every man who accepts circumcision that he is obligated to keep the whole law. 4 You are severed from Christ, you who would be justified by the law; you have fallen away from grace. 5 For through the Spirit, by faith, we ourselves eagerly wait for the hope of righteousness. 6 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision counts for anything, but only faith working through love.
Fallen from grace:
- You have left the principle of grace
- You have shifted your confidence from Christ to your own performance
- You have stepped away from relying on God’s free gift and are attempting to earn what Christ has already accomplished
Circumcision became more than a ritual-it became a symbol of trying to earn what Jesus freely gives. The gospel declares that our confidence is not in what we do for God, but in what Christ has already done for us. Faith in Jesus, not religious performance, is what counts.
It is finished:
Hebrews 10:11-14
11 And every priest stands ministering daily and offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. 12 But this Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God, 13 from that time waiting till His enemies are made His footstool. 14 For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified.
